Woodstock Fact File
The town name of 'Woodstock' is Old English for 'clearing in the woods'. Woodstock was described as a royal forest in the Domesday Book compiled in the eleventh century.
The town grew as coach stop for the journey northwards and later around a royal hunting lodge, later to become Blenheim Palace, home of the Dukes of Marlborough since the early eighteenth century and birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill
The parish church of St Mary Magdalene has been on the site for over 1000 years. The church has a Norman doorway
